Expatriates

This section offers the necessary information to the expatriates who want to import goods without payment of customs duties.

Please follow this guide and complete the paperwork requested by the Romanian Customs Authorities to ensure a faster clearance and delivery of your shipment.

Individuals from abroad that come to Romania to work, as well as students or pupils that come for study can temporarily import personal effects and other goods for personal use, exclusive of customs duties, provided it is within 3 months from their first arrival.

Required documents

  • Inventory list - 2 copies - made by the shipper and sent with the shipment or provided by the consignee on behalf of the shipper; 
  • Official proof from the Romanian authorities or employer stating their position in the company - provided by the consignee;
  • Copy of identity papers - provided by the consignee;

Note: When the 3 month period expires, approval for importing goods will be subject to the same conditions as those specified in the Personal Effects section.
