Export- Personal effects

This section describes the requirements that private persons have to fulfil in the case of personal effects exporting. This section offers information concerning:

  1. Situations exclusive of customs duties payments;
  2. Situations inclusive of customs duties payments;
  3. Required paperwork for customs.

Please follow this guide and complete the paperwork requested by the Romanian Customs Authorities to ensure a faster clearance and delivery of your shipment.

1. Situations exclusive of customs duties payments

Travelers and Romanian nationals, resident in Romania or abroad, may export from the country, as unaccompanied luggage, exclusive of customs duties payments, the following effects:

  • Personal effects and medicines, in a reasonable quantity, necessary for the time spent abroad; 
  • Books, publications, recordings of any kind, slides and similar effects meant for personal use;
  • Effects received as prizes from official contests or competitions;
  • Other personal effects;
  • Individual effects with a value not exceeding EURO 500.

Romanian nationals, resident in Romania, who are sent abroad for work or study, may export, exclusive of customs duties, as unaccompanied luggage, the following:

  • Personal effects, documents and study materials;
  • Objects for long term use.

Note: Family members can send to the above mentioned, clothes, necessary footwear and linen exclusive of customs duties payments.

2. Situations inclusive of customs duties payments

To all effects which are not included according to the quantity and value limits defined above, a duty limit of 20% on the value of the goods assessed by customs will be applied.

The value of these effects will be calculated by Romanian Customs as per the List of Values issued by the Finance Ministry.

Note: If any item is not included in the List of Values then the General Customs Department will determine the value using invoices, bills, etc. as evidence.

3. Documents required:

  • Packing list;
  • Identity card (copy);
  • Request to customs;
  • For Romanian nationals, resident in Romania, who are sent abroad for work or study it is also necessary to present an Authorisation issued by the employer stating also their position within the company.
